The following is a listing of the CRPIS members in the La Crosse area. Members who have not yet been given member status and are still in the training phase are listed in that section at the bottom of this page but may not have a photo available. When member trainees have completed training and are extended membership as full members, they will be moved to the member section of this directory. Additionally, the CRPIS has a regular cadre of members and a reserve or auxiliary component to membership. Auxiliary members are not full-time members but fill in as needed due to the constraints of their time and thus their ability to participate at extended levels. Some examples of auxiliary members include students, clergy, technicians, etc. These persons add value to the work that the CRPIS does and assists the full-time members in completing and staying on task.

CRPIS members are not chosen lightly, they are chosen based upon their interest in the study of the paranormal, their ability to keep an open mind while maintaining a healthy skepticism, their ability to work well in a team environment and their individual skills and strengths. Persons wishing to become members are voted on by the group as a whole and only are extended full member status after being accepted by the standing membership and completing training.

You can be sure that when you seek the help of the CRPIS field teams, you are getting quality people who not only enjoy what they do but enjoy helping others and getting answers to questions that defy current understanding. We take a professional approach to all that we do and our manner and work shows that attitude and approach to the way we conduct paranormal investigations.

Mark Waldenberger

Founder / Chief Field Investigator / Research / EVP

Mark has been involved in paranormal investigating since the mid 80's and started the Coulee Region Ghost Hunters in 1991. In 1996, the CRGH changed its name to the Coulee Region Paranormal Investigation Society or CRPIS. Mark is responsible for overall organization and policies and admitting new satellite groups or individuals for membership. He also works in the field as the Lead Investigator and works with the collection, cataloging and editing of EVP's. He also works extensively with photographic and video evidence as needed. The Founder is also responsible for training new members and is on the evidence review panel which looks at evidence collected during investigations and evaluates it.

Kim Johnson

Investigator / SB Director / Sensitive

Kim is an important part of the CRPIS in that she keeps the wheels greased and makes the machine run. Kim started out as our Sergeant At Arms and Equipment Manager and then worked her way up to  Assistant Director and she is now the Director of the CRPIS taking the reigns from Cindy.  In addition to her various duties as an officer of the CRPIS, Kim is also a top-notch investigator and continues to impress us with the impressions she receives which are unbelievably accurate.

Neil Nystrom

Investigator / SB Assistant Director

Neil has shown his abilities and talents since his first outing with our teams. He continues to go above and beyond in his work at CRPIS and brings with him some personal experiences with the paranormal. Neil is the point man for all interactions between the CRPIS members and media, individuals and groups. As Assistant Director for CRPIS, Neil oversees all facets of the field teams and makes sure that the right people are matched with the right functions in the field. He is, for all purposes, the final authority on how the field teams are made up, what they are to do and how they should go about their work. His wit, intuition, organization and abilities to communicate with others in a no nonsense way let's everyone concentrate on the investigation and conduct their assigned tasks easily.

Boyd Hanson

Investigator / SB Equipment and Technology Specialist

The new SB Equipment and Technology Specialist Lead will be Boyd Hanson, a new member whose background and interests make him an obvious choice for the CRPIS and this position. Boyd enjoys fixing things and working with new things and ideas, both obvious traits useful in this position. He is very knowledgeable in a wide variety of subjects and also is writing a book on ghost stories from around Wisconsin. Please join us in welcoming Boyd to the CRPIS and feel free to contact him soon through our contact page with your questions and comments. Also, if you have any personal stories you would like to share with Boyd, feel free to drop him a line. Maybe he'll include your story in his book.

Scott Waldenberger

Investigator / Field Technician

Scott is a brother of the Founder and has been associated with the CRPIS since its earliest days. He is an auxiliary field technician now and helps out when called upon to do so. When trouble happens in the field and you need a quick fix, Scott is notorious for making the impossible happen with a little bit of nothing. His wit and knowledge about all things mechanical and electrical are invaluable when whatever can go wrong does.

Amy Waldenberger

Investigator / Photographer / EVP

Amy is the wife of the Founder and enjoys photography and collecting EVP's for the CRPIS. She also has an ability to attract spirits to her. Although she claims no special abilities and no unusual sensory perceptions, when nobody else is getting any EVP recordings, Amy will get them. Spirits from children to adults and both male and female seem to try and make contact or enable us to hear them through Amy's recordings. When she isn't working in the field, Amy is home holding down the fort and taking care of the little ones. She does a lot behind the scenes to make things possible.

Karen Burr

Investigator / SB Chief Research Information Specialist

Karen is a more recent member to the CRPIS teams but her spirit and her interest in the subject have made her a very valuable team member. In addition to that, Karen is an absolute marvel when it comes to research. She often finds tidbits of information that are hidden or not easily found that relate to investigations or research histories. Her skills are invaluable to every investigation and her work helps us to to the best job we can in the field.

Julia Schmick

Investigator / SB Board Secretary / Sensitive

Julia is yet another sensitive or intuitive who has joined the ranks of the CRPIS team and add depth and another perspective on our investigations. Like Kim, she does not claim any special abilities nor does she seek recognition for her apparent abilities but we recognize them nonetheless. Besides her abilities to percieve the other side, Julia is a first rate investigator who puts her all into every investigation she has been a part of. She is a perfect fit for the CRPIS and her dedication, willingness to learn and experience new things and ideas and her desire to help those who request it is what makes her contributions to the team overall so special.

Dave Boyer

Assistant Technology and Equipment Specialist/ Internet Technologies / Field Investigator

Back after a brief hiatus, the CRPIS original Technology Specialist has returned. Dave could not stay away and he has been missed by all of us. He returns to resume his duties as Investigator and Assistant Technology and Equipment Specialist and everyone is happy that he has. Dave has always impressed with his thinking that is "outside the box" and his veracious appetite for new ideas and new theories as well as new equipment. His contribution to the CRPIS have always been new and insightful and have added to our arsenal of tools to use in our work. More than that, Dave is an integral part of our CRPIS family and our team.

Cindy Betsinger

Advisor / Field Investigator

Cindy has been associated with the Coulee Region Paranormal Investigation Society for some time before actually becoming a member. Since joining, she has become an invaluable member of the group and has worked her way through the ranks from Investigator to Assistant Director and then to the top leadership position as Director under the Founder. Nowdays, Cindy uses her skills and talents as a field investigator and interviewer conducting the one-on-one interviews with witnesses. Her skills, attitude, determination and commitment to making the CRPIS one of the premier paranormal investigation organizations comes through in all that she does and the group is better for it.
